Frequently Asked Questions

How old does my son need to be to join Cub Scouts?

Any boy who has passed his 5th birthday or is entering the Kindergarten can join Cub Scouts. The regular Cub Scout year starts in September, but feel free to join over the Summer and take part in some of our exciting activities. The boys can register as early as June 1st.

What uniform is required and where do I get it?

There are two uniforms. The Class A dress uniform is worn for Pack Meetings and special events like parades or the Blue & Gold Banquet. It consists of a hat, neckerchief, neckerchief slide, shirt, belt and patches. The Class B casual uniform is worn for Den meetings, camping and other less formal events. It consists of the hat and a T shirt.

Please note that we use a special Pack hat - this sets our guys apart from other Packs at Council events. It also saves you money. The regular cub scout hat changes with each rank (ex: tiger, wolf, etc.), and costs $12.99 from the Scout Shop. In our Pack we keep the same hat for all 5 years.

How much does Cub scouts cost?

Dues are $90 per year. This covers registration with the Boy Scouts of America, insurance, Pack activities, Den activities, etc. There is also a prorated registration fee of $3.50-$30($2.50 month+$1/year insurance fee) and an optional Boys Life subscription of $12. The opportunity for free dues is available by selling popcorn in the first few months of the school year. Dues are waived if the scout sells $450 in popcorn.

In addition there may be occasional fees for special events or outings to offset costs for that event (e.g. Winter Campout was $5 in the past). If our Pack sells enough popcorn there may be enough funds to not charge for most events.

Please note that the Moose Lodge generously covers a portion of our "charter fee" with the Boy Scouts of America. In addition, leaders are not asked to pay registration costs.

When do I have to pay dues?

Dues should be paid by the October Pack Meeting. Unpaid dues may result in a delay in your son receiving awards and rank - since these are paid for from dues.  Payment plans can be discreetly arranged with the treasurer.

What is the difference between a "Den" and a "Pack"?

The Dens are comprised of smaller groups of boys of the same age. They work towards a common rank throughout the year. Dens are usually 4-8 boys. The Pack fluctuates between 30 and 50 Cubs. If enough boys from the same rank show interest, there may be more than one den at that rank to keep the dens smaller and more manageable. Generally, there is only one den per rank.

Will my boy know anyone in Cub Scouts?

If your son attends Winslow elementary school chances are he will know at least one Cub. With Winslow having about 500 kids and our pack having up to 50 boys it looks like 15-20% of the boys are involved with our Pack.

Where / when are meetings held?

Most Pack Meetings are held at Winslow Elementary School at 6:30 pm on the 4th Tuesday of the month. There are months when we may meet earlier in the month or on a different day as a Pack - generally when we meet offsite. Den meetings are held at either Tinker Park or Winslow Elementary School. The 1st graders start Tiger meetings at 6:30 pm on Tuesdays, approximately twice per month, and the rest of our Pack starts their den meetings at 6:30 pm on Tuesdays.

How many Cubs are in Pack 332?

Somewhere between 30 and 50 boys are in the pack from year to year.  For Fall 2017, we are looking at about 5 fifth graders, 5 fourth graders, 6 third graders, 3 second graders, 4 first graders, and 3 kindergartners.
