Two-Deep Leadership

Please see the BSA website for more information on child safety and Two-Deep Leadership

·What is Two-Deep Leadership?
Two-deep leadership requires two registered adult leaders, or one registered leader and a parent of a participating Scout or other adult, one of whom must be 21 years of age or older are with scouts a tall times.  No single adult should be alone with a child, unless he or she is the parent of that child.

·Why is Two-Deep Leadership Important?
Two-Deep leadership ensures our children, parents, and leaders prevent situations where wrongdoing can occur.  All meetings, discussions, and activities are structured to prevent one-on-one contact between adults and scouts.  One-on-one contact between adults and scouts is prohibited.

·When is Two-Deep Leadership Required?
Two-Deep leadership is required for all events, trips, and outings. Appropriate adult leadership must be present for all overnight Scouting activities; coed overnight activities— even those including parent and child—require male and female adult leaders, both of whom must be 21 years of age or older, and one of whom must be a registered member of the BSA.

·Two-deep leadership and no one-on-one contact between adults and youth members includes digital communication. Leaders may not have one-on-one private online communications or engage one-on-one in other digital activities (games, social media, etc.) with youth members. Leaders should copy a parent and another leader in digital and online communication, ensuring no one-on-one contact exists in text, social media, or other forms of online or digital communication.
