TEACHING THE NEXT GENERATION

One of the aims and purposes of Boy Scouts of America is to teach the boy’s how to be good, productive citizens.

Our Cub Scouts are taught to have pride in their country, the American Flag, and a sense of duty to serve other people.  This is accomplished by teaching them the nation’s history, about the military, and the meaning of the American Flag, among many other ways.  Our Cub Scouts perform color guard flag ceremonies, open and close our Pack meetings, and the proper way to store and post the American Flag.

REMEMBERING THOSE THAT SERVED

At Memorial Day and Veterans Day, our Pack joins with other BSA and Veteran Service Organizations around the country to place American flags on the grave markers of fallen Veterans.

AMERICAN FLAG RETIREMENT CEREMONIES

Boy Scouts of America is the youth-serving organization most closely associated with patriotism.  We have a duty to retire American flags and teach our Scouts how to do so respectfully.  Burning is the preferred method in the U.S. Flag Code (Section 176).

We receive worn and tattered American flags from the community and hold retirement ceremonies at our campouts.  It is a pensive, elaborate, and dignified ceremony.  We sit with the campfire until the last flag is burned and the fire had completely died out.  Afterward, the grommets of the flag are retrieved from the fire and presented to Pack members who are active duty, veterans, or family members of veterans.
