Our meetings take place every Tuesday from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM at the Eagle River Lions Club. The Lions Club is located on Eagle River Road, adjacent to the WalMart. Here is a picture of how to get there:

Name: Update for June 7

This Tuesday, June 7, is the Troop Court of Honor that will be held at Mirror Lake.  Dress is Class A with sash.  We will have a BBQ with the Troop providing burgers and hot dogs and the Patrols providing the rest.  I have not finalized the COH script but I will get that out as soon as I can.   The COH will begin at 6:30PM but you can certainly come before that to enjoy the park before we begin.  There are some picnic tables available but you might want to bring a lawn chair with you.

Side dishes:  Blue Sea Turtles, Ninja Bunnies, Eagles Patrols

Drinks and Ice:  Jr. Leaders, Frogs

Desserts:  Nuclear Penguins

Summer Camp:  Summer Camp is coming soon.  Don’t forget your physicals.  Parents, please remember that some of the merit badges and activities at camp require extra fees that are not included in the basic camp fee.

Name: Update for May 31

This Tuesday, May 31, is a parents meeting for all parents of Troop 230 Scouts.  Incoming Scoutmaster Dennis Sessler will lead a discussion on the Troop and its direction for the rest of the year.  Scouts will have an orienteering game outdoors, so bring your compasses.  Dress is Class B.

Court of Honor:  We will have our Troop Court of Honor at the picnic area at Mirror Lake next Tuesday, June 7.  The Troop will be providing the main course (burgers and hot dogs) and the rest of the Patrols will be bringing the sides.  Please let me know how many people will be attending in your family so that we can insure having enough of the main course.

These Patrols are responsible for the following:

Chips/veggies/side dishes:  Blue Sea Turtles, Ninja Bunnies, Eagles

Drinks and Ice:  Jr. Leaders, Frogs

Desserts:  Nuclear Penguins

Flag Service Project:  We will take down the flags on Wednesday, June 1.  Please wear your Class B uniform and meet in the Jitters parking lot at 6:15PM.  Please bring a ladder if you have one.

Summer Camp:  Scouts attending summer camp need to get their physicals done and turned in to ASM Daniel Bath ASAP.  You should have already signed up for your merit badge choices.

Name: Update for May 24

This Tuesday, May 24, is not a regular meeting but a PLC (Patrol Leaders Council) meeting.  This meeting is for Scout leadership only and Scoutmasters.  Dress is Class B for the summer.  We will determine the Troop activities for the next few weeks.

Committee meeting:  This Tuesday, May 24, there will also be a Troop Committee meeting.

Flag Service Project:  Troop 230 will have our Flag Service project this Wednesday, May 25.  We will hang American flags in the Eagle River community in honor of Memorial Day weekend.  We will meet in the Jitters parking lot at 6:15PM.  Wear your Class B uniform and bring a 6ft ladder if you have one.  We need all the help we can get.  The more help we get the faster we can complete this project.

Parents Meeting:  There will be a parents meeting next Tuesday, May 31.

Name: Update for May 17

This Tuesday, May 17, is a regular meeting and dress is Class A.  This meeting we will have an instruction on tying lashings from our Troop Instructors.  This information is important for one of the rank advancement signoffs.  Afterwards Scouts will go outside for a game.  Scouts who took a tent home from the Spring Camporee should return those clean and dry on Tuesday.

Name: Update for May 10

This Tuesday, May 10, is a regular meeting and dress is Class A.  We will have preparations for the GAC Spring Camporee this weekend, May 13-15 (Signups are closed).  Scouts will choose a menu, pick a grubmaster, determine tent partners, and check patrol boxes.  We will then go practice some of the events for Patrol competitions.

Chilkoot High Adventure:  The Chilkoot crew will also have preparations this Tuesday for their Peters Creek campout this weekend.

Summer Camp:  Michelle Moore has been sending out numerous emails about Summer Camp with details, signup deadlines, merit badge signups and tshirt purchases.  Please check your emails for these important announcements as many deadlines are approaching or may have even passed.

Order of the Arrow:  The OA Spring Ordeal is scheduled for May 20-22 at Camp Gorsuch.  This is the first of two Ordeals this year that OA candidates can attend.  The deadline for signups is May 16 and is done online through the Great Alaska Council website.  There will be a celebration breakfast on the morning of May 22 for the candidates that pass the Ordeal.  This breakfast is a chance for parents/family to celebrate their Scout’s achievement.  Those that wish to attend this breakfast must also sign up through the Council website

Name: Update for May 3

This Tuesday, May 3, is a regular meeting and dress is Class A.  This meeting will be the last opportunity to sign up for the GAC Spring Camporee, May 13-15 at Camp Gorsuch.  The cost is $27 (cash only please).  The cost covers the $12 fee to the council as well as $15 for meals.  The theme for the camporee is “Lumberjack Games”. 

Troop Instructor, Eric Bonnes, is going to lead a Scouting Heritage competition between the Patrols at this Tuesday’s meeting.

Also, this meeting is the time to return clean and dry tents, tarps and Patrol boxes so our Quartermasters need to be present to receive and store the gear. We will also have a discussion about our recent campout and talk about what went well and what we can do better.

Junior Leaders Training (JLT):  At the TLC meeting held April 5th, the Scout leadership picked the evening of May 6 to hold the JLT.  This is a required leadership meeting for ALL elected and appointed Scouts.  This meeting will be held at the United Methodist Church of Chugiak, Friday May 6th, from 5-9PM.  There will be no food or drink provided so bring something to eat and drink.

Name: Update for April 26

This Tuesday, April 26, is a regular meeting and dress is Class A.  This Tuesday we will have final preparations for the Bird Ridge campout.  Scouts who have a Patrol box need to return it cleaned and ready for the trailer.  Patrols will have menu planning (which must be signed off by the SPL or a Scoutmaster), fill out a duty roster, and determine a grubmaster.  Scouts will determine tent partners and tents will be checked out.  Quartermasters will pack the trailer and grubmasters will receive their money.  Scouts can participate in a game if time remains.

Outdoor Activities:

Final payments are due for summer camp.  Please complete your payments during the meeting, not after.  Please see the email sent out April 19th from Michelle Moore about what payments are due. 

Signups continue for the Spring Camporee that will be held at Camp Gorsuch the weekend of May 13-15.  Cost is $27 to cover meals and GAC fees.  The theme is Lumberjack games which will involve Patrol competitions with knives, axes and saws.  Scouts need to have a Totin Chip in order to participate and be able to show their card when asked.  We will have a Totin Chip class at the Bird Ridge campout for those who have not earned their card.  If you have earned your card but do not have it, you must speak with Mr. Reber.

Name: Update for April 19

This Tuesday, April 19, is a regular meeting and dress is Class A.  We will begin our preparations for the Bird Ridge campout, April 29-May 1.  This will also be the last day to sign up for this campout, cost is $20 (cash only).  The new Patrols will receive their new Patrol boxes.  They will inspect them to insure they are complete and have them cleaned.  We will also have a demonstration on how to set up the new Troop tents.  Quartermasters will make sure we have all necessary Troop gear for this campout.  Scouts below First Class will have pack checks.

Frog patrol is responsible for set up and the Eagles patrol is responsible for cleanup.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES:

Signups will begin for the Great Alaska Council Spring Camporee held May 13-15 at Camp Gorsuch.  The theme of this camporee is “Lumberjack Games” with competitions between Patrols.  The cost of this campout is $27 (cash only).

Kayak Merit Badge Counselor needed:  The Great Alaska Council is in need of Kayak merit badge counselors.  Due to new regulations, specific training is needed to qualify as a counselor and this training is being offered by the Great Alaska Council.  They need counselors willing to work with other Troops in the Council, not just the Troop you are registered with.  Please see Mr. Reber if you are interested.

Name: Update for April 12

This Tuesday, April 12, we will meet at the Gruening Middle School track for physical fitness activities until 7:30PM, then we will work on the Scouting for Food program by going door to door to hang flyers for food donations.  Dress is Class A.  We will need adult drivers to transport the Scouts.  We will return to the same neighborhoods on Saturday, April 16 to collect the food and drop it off at the collection site at Fred Meyer.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES:

Sign ups will continue for the Bird Ridge campout, April 29-May 1.  Cost is $20 (cash only)  Last day to sign up will be April 19th.

At this past Scout leadership meeting, the decision was made for the Troop to attend the Great Alaska Council’s spring camporee, held on May 13-15.  Cost is $27 (cash only) per Scout, adults are free.  The theme of this event is “Lumberjack games".  We will begin signups this Tuesday and it will continue until May 3rd.  Since this is also the same weekend as a Chilkoot preliminary campout we will need a minimum of three adults to attend in order for this campout to proceed.

Name: Update for March 22

This Tuesday, March 22, will be a regular meeting and dress is Class A.  Due to some schedule conflicts we have moved the elections to March 29.  This meeting we will begin initial preparations for our Bird Ridge campout by helping the Quartermasters with the cage.

ORDER OF THE ARROW:  OA elections will also be held on March 29 before our Troop elections.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES:  Signups will continue for the Alaska Rock Gym outing scheduled for April 2-3.  Cost is $30 (cash or check) for Scouts and adults that attend.  Scouts must have filled out both the Troop permission slip and the liability form for the Alaska Rock Gym.  No Scout will be allowed to participate without BOTH those forms filled out.  Adults must also fill out an Alaska Rock Gym adult liability form as well.  Scouts must bring a helmet.  Scouts ages 14 and older can be trained to belay other climbers.

Signups will also begin for the Bird Ridge campout, April 29-May 1.  Cost is $20 (cash only)

Next Saturday, March 26, and Easter Sunday, March 27, the Lions Club needs our assistance with their Easter Egg hunt.  On Saturday the Lions need help cleaning Lions Park from 10AM to 1PM and on Sunday they need assistance with the food drive that they will have during the Easter Egg hunt.  If you want to help please sign up at this Tuesday’s meeting.
